Single Review: Caleb Nathan - “Tired”

It is always humbling and honoring to make contact with people who genuinely want to succeed in what they do. When someone reaches out to connect or ask for feedback, it shows drive and an eagerness to grow even more. Caleb Nathan has just premiered his new record, “Tired”, and RNB Nerd is happy to highlight the joint here and let you know what to expect.

For a music review, our first step is to listen to the music without any ties to lyrics or vocal delivery. We are looking purely for the melody, something we can hum along to, something that connects without needing words. Not sure if Caleb has studied the greats, but immediately the placement of the background vocals and the types of adlibs that are sprinkled throughout, makes this sound reminiscent of the more recent work from Jagged Edge. You are hit with emotions straight away. The lyrics are simple and effective, with a run time of 2:04, there is something still left to be desired. Maybe the point was to sit with the feeling of loss and anguish? If so, then the lyrics and music really hit a home run.

The melody packs a decent tune and Caleb has other music on his page with less auto-tune that sound great. He has a nice voice and tone. Maybe “Tired” would pack a stronger punch if it were less filtered and allowed for our guy to showcase more of his natural voice. “Tired” is still a strong record for your sad boy hours, so if that is your state of mind, hit play and follow him at @thecalebnathan.
