Single Review: Annie Lux - “Too Attached”

Hello World! RNB Nerd had the pleasure of reviewing the latest release from Annie Lux; “Too Attached”.

“Too Attached” starts with soft guitar plucks that open the gates for a flood of metaphor. The expressive lyrics give you a sense of the sort of artist that Annie Lux is; a young women who is vulnerably open with her emotions. It is easy to see the story that she is telling from her perspective; unrequited love that she is willing to chase (“This time I know that I'm gonna lose, I need you more than I wanted to”). Annie understands the risks that she faces, but is honest about it and even seems to flirt with being disillusioned (“Oh no, are you the love of my life? Oh no, I'm too attached to your type”).

Annie’s tone is reserved, and my criticism about the record is that her delivery is a little fast at parts which make it hard to fully savor the smart, tongue-in cheek word play. The production has an interesting slowed down-talk sample that gives it a nostalgic vibe. The overall feel of the record is light-hearted, feel good, and is perfectly on trend for what we are hearing across social media platforms right now. It would be interesting to know if there was any forethought put into the song for sharing on social.

Annie said the song encapsulates Filipina love, a concept that is fascinating and feels universal to everyone. Since so much of the success that is awarded to music is based on conformity, it is hard at times to get a sense of an artist’s identity. This goes for racial and cultural backgrounds as well. I think there is strength and distinction in embodying more of this concept and hope to see it come into play with Annie’s future releases. RNB Nerd is excited for Annie and cannot wait to see where she goes!
